Ecopoetics Along Shorelines

WRITING IN THE FIELD

When Ortiz talked about the song as a road that went both inward and outward, I visualized the expression perception relationship as a sort of feedback loop. In the case of writing, the loop changes the relationship from linear to reciprocal. I internalize the expression and it becomes a new perception. Possibly this continues in some type of iterative process. It also avoids breaking the perceptive process into pieces, as with the example of learning the elements of a language or a song. The Octopus is expressed and perceived as a living, breathing mountain, not a collection of individual parts.
