Giving-on-and-with is seen through small and large impacts and parallels the ideas of symbiosis and reciprocity. Glissant urges people to give through engaging with different perspectives; listen, hear them out, work with them, to form a bridge between divided groups. In the world today, I see many political figures pursuing counters of this idea. The media fuels them and fosters a sense of estrangement among groups. On the contrary, in everyday life, I see people attempting giving-on-and-with, such as through grassroots projects, but are often opposed by powerful institutions; however, Glissant’s idea is growing, driving towards compromise, understanding, and change.
