Consider the settler government’s various attempts to control land, water, salmon, and Nisqually fishing recounted in Messages from Frank’s Landing. Focusing on one attempt at control* and the response of various Nisqually people (along with their more-than-human relations and their non-tribal allies), describe the ongoing response–whether resistance, transfiguration, disappearance, etc.
*You might consider the establishment of Ft Lewis on Nisqually reservation lands, the construction of various dams and fish hatcheries, the arrest of Nisqually fishers by state game wardens, the state of Washington’s arguments leading up to the Boldt decision, or post-Boldt attempts to limit tribal co-management.
